The Garden: Week Two

It has been consistently over 65 degrees for nearly the last two weeks-we also just had our first 12 hour day on Saturday. Although we’re still technically a few days shy, it feels safe to say spring is here. Our trees are blooming, astilbe is emerging, & our garlic is growing fatter than I even realized was possible. The last few seeds (herbs) went in the ground yesterday, the indoor seedlings are growing stronger, and my Seed Savers pepper & tomato transplants will be in the mail in only a week. We’re continuing to clean up the yard– picking weeds daily, refreshing the mulch (don’t ask me why we don’t have grass back there, we’re renting so there’s not a lot we can do about it), and hosing everything down. I cannot wait until everything is lush again– but for now am perfectly happy with the first quiet blooms.
