Golden age.

I am trying to convince myself I can and will make something (or a few somethings) every weekend. New colorways of existing patterns feels like sort of a cop out, but I have to start somewhere. Gilded mums & gold nuggets, new in my shop.

Shawn Hileman.

This week has been completely exhausting. Wednesday in particular felt like a work day that was never going to end. But suddenly midday, a stranger came up and asked if I was Julie, said someone showed him my etsy, and he wanted to give me some prints… just because. I was totally floored- it was just the kind of exciting surprise that gave me a boost to finish out this week.  The stranger (I found after a little internet stalking) is Shawn Hileman. He not only sells the prints on his etsy but also runs Masthead Print Studio in Philly. He seems to put together really great shows & I’m so excited to have it on my radar! Hooray nice strangers! They are super neat, & I’m going frame shopping this weekend. He gifted me the top two, but I think I need the bottom one for my office.

A little handmade Christmas.

Although I bought all of the presents this year, I did take a little time to hand-print the wrapping paper. I printed my birds & co print in silver ink on light tan newsprint. I also used the brayer & silver ink to make some textured silver paper, as well as used tear-drop shaped stamp pads directly on the newsprint in different shades (of course I forgot to photograph those before shipping). It felt good doing a little handmade this Christmas anyway.

A Year in Prints.

Happy December 1st! Can you believe this year is nearly over? I am just now realizing I get to hang a new calendar soon… this beautiful collection/calendar titled “A Year in Prints” is very much on my Christmas wish list. Can you believe each print was silkscreened? You can read more about them right here, and purchase here!

Beau Ideal spells it out.

Very tempted to grab up the following cards and make a spot on my wall for our (me & Ryan’s) initials… From Beau Ideal‘s constantly amazing (and growing) collection of paper goods.

Mokka bags.

Esther Shield of Mokka creates gorgeous handmade bags that feature both vintage and hand-printed fabrics. It looks like her designs sell out pretty quickly, so I recommend bookmarking & visiting frequently.

Kazuno Kohara’s Ghosts in the House.

This book came out in 2008, so sorry if I am repeating something you already know… but when stalling in Border’s today, I couldn’t resist picking up TWO copies of Kazuno Kohara’s Ghosts in the House! One for me, one for baby Cruse- at $7 each, it would have been silly not to. Her beautiful linocut illustrations and super cute kitty cat + witch + ghosts characters are to die for. I just wish she had a personal website/portfolio for me to browse through!
